You need a phone number to send and receive texts and calls from your account.
Before you start
Your account needs a payment method on file before you can buy a number. Numbers and usage are charged to your account. See View your plan and billing.
Buy a number
Click Settings, then Integrations.
Click Configure Telephony.
Open the Numbers tab.
Click Buy Number.
Choose the Country and Type.
To find a local number, enter an Area Code, or search by City and State/Region. Use Contains to look for numbers with certain digits or letters.
Click Search Available Numbers.
Click Buy next to the number you want, then confirm the purchase.
When it is done, you'll see that the number was purchased successfully and is ready for incoming texts.

Keep the number you already have
You can move (port) your existing business number. On the Numbers tab, click Port numbers, or go to Settings and open Number Porting, then fill in the request. Porting can take a few weeks; keep your old service active until it is complete.
More phone settings
The Configure Telephony page also has tabs for Recording, Voicemail & Routing, Call Outcomes and Compliance. Use Phone menus to set up a "press 1 for sales" menu.
Next step: register for texting
In the US, you must register your business before texting customers. See Register for A2P 10DLC texting.
Troubleshooting
The Buy Number button is greyed out. Add a payment method first. Click Go to Billing if you see the message "Add a card on file before purchasing numbers."
"No numbers found". Try a nearby area code, or remove some of your search filters.
